For those of you with beginner legs or children I've started a list of rides on the quietest tracks I know. Yes, the list is currently as short as those tiny feet on pedals but give me six months and with any luck I'll have LOTS more to add.

If you have a loop, or a good track or bike path do please let me know and I'll add it to the list.

And, as we all know, when cycling with little people food is generally a must (as well as strong coffee for the parents) - so keep those cafe stops coming!

Hermitage to Hampstead Norreys via the Eling Cycle Track 4.5 miles

Starts and ends in Hermitage

Although this is an out and back its a good option for beginner cyclists. The Eling Cycle Track is gravel, nicely maintained and pretty much as flat as it gets in West Berks.

Leave your car in Hermitage and cycle to the pretty village of Hampstead Norreys where you can stop for some food in the community shop and cafe. Then head back.

If you're in need of further sustenance on return (with kids entirely possible) then just outside Hermitage the Hillier Garden Centre has ample parking and a decent cafe.

The old railway line loop from Didcot to Upton - 10 miles and pretty flat

Starts & ends in Didcot Railway Station

The path across to Blewbury
The path across to Blewbury

This is a good ride for your beginner/intermediate riders. Coming out of Didcot you take the old railway line to Upton (gentle incline up - no traffic as bike path). Crossing the road at Upton there is a little bit of slightly steeper hill which takes you onto a glorious path (you're now at the highest point of the ride) and downwards across the fields to Blewbury. The Style Acre Tearoom is the perfect stop as you've done the climb part of the ride. Plus it is very friendly and has plenty of cake...

After crossing the fields from Blewbury the second half of the ride is on quiet roads. You pass through the pretty villages of Aston Tirrold, South Moreton and Fulscot before joining a path back into Didcot.

Coming soon.....

The Easy Peasy Bishop's Court Farm Loop

Henley to Hambleden - Flat & easy (as long as you don't fall in the river) (Cafe Stops at both ends)

Childrey & Letcombe Regis & back (Cafe stop: Childrey Village Stores)
